What is spiritual direction?
Spiritual Direction is for you if you are ready to grow closer to God. It
allows you to become more aware of and attentive to the divine presence in
your life, through prayer, scripture passages, journaling, drawing, music,
being in nature, and being with those you love.
As you go deeper in your relationship with God, you may want a little
support from a “spiritual companion” or “guide” trained to help you hear
how God is calling you. A spiritual director can journey with you as you
prayerfully examine and reflect on where God has been present in your life,
or why God seems absent.
Discover the “God moments” in your life with Spiritual Direction.
Here are three different options to companion you on your journey:
RETREAT IN EVERYDAY LIFE: This program follows the SPIRITUAL
EXERCISES developed by St. Ignatius. It will deepen your spiritual journey
and help you see God in all things through praying, journaling, and meeting
weekly with your spiritual director. The Spiritual Exercise can awaken you
to a more profound, conscious experience of God’s constant presence and
unlimited love.Typically lasts 32 weeks/9 months
One-on-One hour-long weekly meetings
Scripture passages assigned for daily prayer periods
8 WEEK RETREAT: This program gives you a concise experience of the
Spiritual Exercises. It features some of the most impactful tools from the
longer Retreat In Everyday Life.
Eight one-on-one weekly meetings
ONGOING DIRECTION: Explore your spiritual journey in a language and
manner that is meaning to you. Unpack your experiences of grace and
challenge as you grow in faith, trusting in God’s unconditional love.
One-on-One hour-long monthly meetings
At each meeting, we will explore where God is showing up in your life
and respond to the challenges and graces that surfaced during the past
Who am I?
My name is Mary Coffey and I am a certified spiritual
director, trained at the Ignatian Spiritual Institute at
John Carroll University in Cleveland Ohio. I am a
member of Spiritual Directors, International. After
receiving my training as a spiritual director, I went
back to school to dig deeper into my understanding
of how God shows up in our lives. I earned a
Masters’ Degree in Theology at John Carroll, and
taught college level courses for the last four years on
the intersection of creative expression and spirituality.
In addition, I love painting (mostly faces) and playing with color, hiking to
waterfalls, and snapchatting with my four grown children.
